Graffiti in NYC predated 'ue' by decades. Some of the most exploration minded people in NYC were the writers, who went down deep in the subways looking for layups and places to paint the trains in peace. The same can be said for all of the old NYC industrial spots: The graffiti artists were there first - just as they are today. In an increasingly hostile environment, abandoned buildings and tunnels provide a rare 'lawless' terrain where artists can spend hours creating productions with little fear of the police showing up.

We here at LTV find it utterly hilarious that many 'urban explorers' play the political silly game. If you go to any abandonment that such people frequent, you are guaranteed to find at least one room that has been tagged up by 'urban explorers'. Often these people try to come off like they are 'taking only photos, leaving only footprints'. This is nonsense. Trespassing and graffiti are both 'crimes' in the eyes of the law.
